Thika - Angry residents of Nyacaba village in Juja sub-county barred police officers from retrieving the body of a middle-aged woman who was mauled to death on the morning of Saturday, December 2, by hyenas.

They also blocked a section of the busy Thika Road.

Citizen Digital reported that the woman was attacked by the animals while she was strolling from Nyacaba village to the Ndarugu coffee estate.

Why Juja residents called out the police

The locals, led by John Mwangi, insisted that the police find the hyenas before taking away the body.

"The police frequently visit us to collect bodies, but they never address the hyena issue. We have said today that they will not remove the body unless they find the hyenas as well. We're tired of this," Mwangi said.

As of the time of going to press, the woman's body was still lying there, ten metres from the road that connects Nyacaba to the busy Thika road.

To express their anger at the killings by ferocious wild animals, another group of locals in the Ndarugu area blocked the super highway on both sides.

TUKO.co.ke previously reported that residents of Kiumoni village, Kathonzweni sub-county, in Makueni county reeled from shock after a young boy was attacked by a marauding hyena.

The Grade One pupil was on his way to school when the animal came out of the bushes and lunged at the unsuspecting boy with fierce aggression.

How a Makueni boy was attacked by hyena

According to Citizen Digital, the early morning incident left the youngster, who is currently bedridden at Makueni County Referral Hospital, with serious injuries.

His elder sibling, with whom he was going to school, managed to escape from the jaws of the vicious animal.

"When he was taken to the hospital he couldn't even lift his limbs, but he's been attended to and is in a better state," the boy's mother said.

An official from the hospital told members of the media that the animal mauled the hapless student on the hands and legs.

The little boy was taken to the theatre, where the open wounds were stitched and bleeding controlled.
