It was a bitter moment for Wangechi because, on one end, she had excelled in her examinations and even received an admission letter to Njonjo Girls High School, and on the other end, she was unable to raise the required fees to join high school.

Then, former Laikipia woman representative Cate Waruguru, also the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) of the State Department for Foreign Affairs nominee, came to her rescue.

Waruguru offered Wangeci a four-year high school scholarship, and she does not regret her move after the latter did her proud by scoring a B+ in the just-released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE.)

Cate Waruguru speaks about excellent girl she sponsored in High School

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke after celebrating Wangeci on her social media pages, Waruguru said that Wangeci's situation back in 2020 touched her first as a mother, and she felt she was obligated to help the little girl live her dreams despite being in a financial crisis.

The politician said she saw the future in Wangechi and believed that education was her sure way to greatness, committing to gifting her that opportunity as any other caring parent would.

"Yes, in 2020, I got news about Mary Wangechi, and as a mother and a parent, I saw the future in this young girl. That's why I decided to sponsor her high school education. Today, I am proud because she has achieved her dream," Waruguru said.

She intimated to TUKO.co.ke that she was in touch with Wangechi throughout her studies and always believed that the little girl would pass her exams and do more incredible things.

"This young girl has encouraged me to support her through her dedication, discipline, and hard work. On the other hand, I kept encouraging her to become who she wanted to be, and she always showed me she believed in greatness.

"With her performance, we are sure more greatness will come out of her. She is a responsible citizen and trendsetter to many girls, and I wish her all the best as she keeps ascending the ladder to excellence," Waruguru added.

Wangechi's story is akin to Levis Otieno of Kanga High School in Migori High School. Having arrived at school with an empty box back in 2020, the boy also scored a B+ in the 2023 KCSE.
