The scuffle in the house attracted a farmhand who locked the house from outside, and one of the assailants was arrested. They claimed she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
According to the police, their preliminary reports showed Florence was strangled using a cloth in her house, but they were waiting for lab analysis to have a clear report.
"The doctor confirmed he had been strangled with a sheet around his neck, so the other analyses or items that were taken to the lab haven't arrived yet. We are waiting for confirmation on whether this act was indeed perpetrated by the suspect," the police said.
How did Florence's husband receive news of her death
The deceased's husband, Stephen Sikolia, a senior lecturer at Maseno University, said he got restless after his father called him at an odd hour.
Sikolia explained that he opted to speak to his wife first to get a clearer picture of what was happening, but a police officer answered her phone.
He enquired to know if he was Stephen before telling him his worst fear, that his wife had been murdered at home.
"At 12:15am I got a call from my father, and I was surprised; a call from my dad at this hour, something must be wrong. So while I was thinking about it, I said no, let me call my wife for a soft-landing discussion. Unfortunately, the person who responded was a police officer and said are you Sikolia? I said yes. "Your wife has been murdered," he said as he wiped tears from his face.
