Kenyans React To Video Of Popular Club 1824 Allegedly Being Shutdown: "Local Imeenda"

1824, a popular nightclub along Lang'ata Road has allegedly been shut down.

Videos doing rounds on social media show the establishment's furniture piled up outside.

Additionally, people were seen carting off the furniture.

There also appear to be police officers at the scene and a police truck.

The videos have sparked speculations, with some claiming that the closure was related to the club owner's fraud case.

County government employee determined as 1824 club owner

1824's owner, Wilson Nashon Kanani, is a Nairobi County employee whose significant wealth, exceeding KSh 100 million, raised suspicions.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) flagged Kanani, revealing his ownership of the multi-million shilling club among many businesses, earning him and his partners over KSh 5 million monthly.

1824 club owner's assets frozen

Previously, TUKO.co.ke reported that Kanani had his assets frozen by the High Court after he was accused of amassing KSh 643.2 million through fraud.

Citizen Digital reported that the EACC filed a petition arguing that the unexplained wealth was accumulated through corruption and money laundering.

The anti-graft body wanted the court to order the forfeiture of the assets, which include land, apartments, cars, and cash, to the state.

The anti-graft agency questioned how Kanani, a procurement officer earning KSh 55,000 a month, could accumulate millions in his account.

On Wednesday, September 13, Justice Esther Maina barred Kanani and his associates from accessing or transferring funds in 12 bank accounts held at various banks until the petition by EACC was heard and determined.
