Mama Ngina revealed she made the decision together with her family to put up the church in honour of Mzee Kenyatta's "love for God and the people."
“His desire was to have a church within the community where people could gather together and worship. He had just come from detention in Maralal, Samburu County," she said.
The consecration service was presided by His Grace Philip Anyolo, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi, alongside other members of the clergy.
St. John the Baptist Chapel would be the 9th Church in the Arch-angel Mutomo Parish.
The building boasts of an antique cathedral, with finesse wood finishings, and stained glass windows.
Former president Uhuru Kenyatta who, alongside former first lady Mama Margaret Kenyatta, was part of the attendees, hailed his mother for confidently committing to the completion of the church.
He also expressed appreciation for all those who "played a role in making the dream come true."
The consecration mass was attended by members of the Kenyatta family, friends and members of the larger Ichaweri community.
In November, Uhuru was part of the faithful that came together to pull up funds to put up a church in Mwingi, Kitui county.
The former president was in Ukambani at the invitation of Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
He arrived at the Full Gospel Church in Mwingi while onboard a helicopter.
The fundraiser saw the attendance of other notable political figures like Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti, former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, and former Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
