KNEC Dismisses Viral Nyambaria High School Results Showing Every Student Scored A: "Fake"

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has categorically dismissed the viral Nyambaria High School results circulating on social media platforms.

The screenshot doing rounds online shows that every student scored an 'A' in the just-announced national examinations.

In an official statement on social media, the council labelled the purported results as "fake news" and emphasised the importance of verifying information before dissemination.

The alleged results pointed to the questionable possibility that the school registered a 100% 'A' grade performance for all students.

It quickly gained traction on social media platforms, causing disbelief among netizens and discussions about the unprecedented achievement.

The screenshot also raised questions about the integrity of the examination system and the possibility of such an occurrence in a free and fair exam.

201k students achieved university entry grade

In the results released on January 08, 2024, at Moi Girls High School, Eldoret, 201,133 candidates achieved the minimum university entry grade in the 2023 KCSE examinations.

Of the top performers, 1,216 candidates scored straight As, with 7,254 attaining the A- (minus) grade.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu observed that of those who scored As, 889 were from national schools, while 172 were from extra-county schools.

Private schools produced 143 As, with county and sub-county schools producing 5 and 7 As, respectively.

A total of 18,078 students attained a mean grade of B+, with 10,370 males and 7,708 females.

An impressive 36,728 candidates scored B plain, 59,514 scored B- (minus), and 78,343 scored C+ (plus).

"The results of the remaining 4,109 candidates who were suspected to have engaged in examination irregularities have been withheld pending the completion of investigations into their cases," he said.
