KRG the Don has sparked social media controversy regarding how Kenyan celebrities are treated.

How did Konshens arrive in Kenya?

This is after he rolled out a red carpet welcome for Jamaican dancehall star Konshens at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Konshens landed in Kenya on Wednesday before his upcoming New Year's Eve performance.

Videos of Konshens' arrival at the JKIA showed how KRG spared no expense in throwing a befitting welcome to the Gal A Bubble crooner.

As soon as Konshens disembarked, he was handed a bouquet by a beautiful lass.

His security was beefed up by a group of burly bodyguards who ring-fenced the Jamaican to keep off overzealous fans and other threats.

KRG also ensured that the arrival was a family affair by having his sons Khalid, Nabil, Naim, and Dawn as part of the welcoming entourage.

When it was time to drive out of the airport, KRG flexed his financial muscle further by rolling out a fleet of high-end cars.

Konshens was led out of JKIA in a convoy of Range Rovers and Mercedes Benz vehicles.

However, KRG's celebration of the Jamaican irked a section of Kenyans.

@peterkaris_001:

“KRG should also go to Jamaica, and then they can pick him up in such a convoy.”

@mimmykiashy:

“And you are telling Zakayo that you don’t have money.”

What was the Play Kenyan Music campaign about?

The discussion reignited the 'Play Kenyan Music Campaign,' where local artistes called out industry stakeholders for favouritism.

Championed by Eric Omondi, among others, the campaign heated mid-year, necessitating the comedian to petition the Senate.

Omondi said he was pushing for 75% of the music played on radio and TV stations to be Kenyan.

"In this briefcase lies the dreams and hopes of young boys and girls with genuine talent. If we don't pass this motion, their voices might never be heard. I promise you, as long as I am alive. Their voices will be heard. We will pass this motion into law," said Omondi.

He said this will enable Kenyan artists to earn from their craft and acquire prestige as their peers across the region where art is celebrated.
