Mt Kenya - A section of governors from the larger Mt Kenya region has made calls to President William Ruto to fire Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir over the frequent power outages.
Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi) and Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri) called on the head of state to crack the whip.
"I heard the other day that there will be electricity rationing. How can this happen when we have a lot of water in our dams? It is an irony. We should not get to a point like South Africa," Njuki spoke at Chuka Stadium.

Why Kahiga Mutahi wants Davis Chirchir sacked
In Nyeri at Dedan Kimathi Stadium, Kahiga was also on the same saying the president should send home cabinet secretaries who he observed were failing his government.
"The other day I arrived in the county from abroad and was welcomed by a power outage. Such a CS should be sacked early in the morning," said Kahiga.
TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Chirchir was among the state officials honoured with the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (E.G.H.) by President Ruto for his exemplary performance.
His recognition comes amid an uproar by Kenyans over continuous power outages in the country.
Who were the CSs left out of presidential awards
The president awarded several leaders, including members of parliament, governors, cabinet secretaries, and athletes, according to the advice of a National Honours and Awards Committee in the president's office.
The Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya award is given in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.
The president also honoured other department heads with Moran of the Order of the Golden Heart (M.G.H.) and Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (C.B.S), among others.
However, Moses Kuria and Aisha Jumwa were among the notable CSs who did not receive any recognition.
Kuria assured the public that his performance would elevate him to receive the honours. Narok senator Ledama Olekina echoed his sentiments.
