“We are making efforts towards stabilising the economy by all means possible. We promise Kenyans that we shall live up to each and every commitment we made and where we shall face challenges, for sure we will tell Kenyans the truth without hiding any cards under the table,” Mudavadi said.

Mudavadi, who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, insisted that the Ruto administration found a dilapidated economy which forced them to initiate tough measures, including high taxes.

He called on Kenyans to be optimistic and support the government's programmes, arguing that they are meant to serve Kenyans well.

“My plea to Kenyans, even as we bid goodbye to 2023, is to remain optimistic and support policies of the government. The government means well for all Kenyans,” he added.

What Ruto said about his promises to Kenyans

In a related story, President Ruto reiterated his commitment to delivering his pre-election campaign pledges.

During the Hustler Fund anniversary celebrations on Thursday, November 30, the head state told off critics who brushed off the programme.

Ruto maintained that his promises to Kenyans in his manifesto would be actualised just like the Hustler Fund.

The president added that the manifesto guided his administration in formulating policies to change Kenyan lives.

"I promised you that we would have a specific plan or treasury for the Hustler Fund; today marks one year of the Hustler Fund. And I have some words to say about this Hustler Fund. People thought it was a joke, that the Hustler Fund is just talk. What I told you is that the manifesto we wrote is not a meat-wrapping newspaper, it was a government policy that would change the lives of the citizens," Ruto said.
