Machogu stated that mathematics was the most improved among other subjects, including Kiswahili, building construction, biology for the blind, and chemistry.
"Out of the 30 subjects offered in 2023, twelve (12) subjects recorded a significant performance improvement: mathematics, Kiswahili, biology, biology for the blind, CRE, business studies, German, music, chemistry, building construction, French, and electricity," announced Machogu.

How did students perform in 2023 KCSE results?
According to the CS, 201,133 candidates managed to score the minimum university grade of C+ or above, a significant improvement from the 2022 exam results.
He attributed the positive change to the new grading system that allowed students to pick two compulsory subjects, mathematics and either of the languages, unlike in the previous system where sciences and the two languages were mandatory.
"The number of candidates who attained the minimum university entry qualification (Grade C+ and above) was 201,133 (22.27%) in the 2023 KCSE Examination compared to 173,345 (19.62%) in the year 2022. This is a result of the application of the new grading system," he stated.
Additionally, Machogu expressed deep concern about students who scored E, which was recorded at 48,174, stating that there is a need to investigate the reasons that led to the mass failure.
"I am pained by the fact that a large number of candidates (48,174 or 5.33%) still ended up scoring a mean grade of E in the 2023 KCSE Examination, even after the Ministry used a more flexible system of computing the final overall candidate results.
I direct the Directorate of Quality Assurance to work with other field officers and teachers to investigate these E Grade cases in each county of the country and submit a report to me within one month for further action," he went on.
Diana Marua claims mwalimu wa math treated me like nobody
Recently, 'Mwalimu wa Maths' has made headlines for their determination to ensure that their lessons do not go unattended and their alleged harassment of students.
Diana Marua, a YouTuber, paraded her wealth, claiming that her maths teacher treated her like a nobody back in school, not knowing that her destiny was in the hands of God.
"There is this math teacher. You see this car (Mercedes Benz)? This is just one of the many cars. I want this information to reach you, Mr. Kimamu and Mr. Nzioka. This is my mansion. You treated me like a nobody in school.
Do you know what this teacher did to me? It hurts me to remember. Today, I am an employer. These are my employees. This teacher thought I would be poor forever. She thought I would sleep hungry," claimed Marua.
