Okiya Omtatah Explains Why He Drove All The Way To Kisii To Report Ruto To Police

Kisii - Busia senator Okiya Omtatah has spoken out about why he reported President William Ruto to authorities in Kisii and not Nairobi.

Speaking to Radio 47, the vocal activist said on Sunday, December 17, he went to Lang'ata Police Station, but the officers took him around in circles for over six hours.

"They never attended to my issue. Later, one of the constable officers told me that so many phone calls had been made, their bosses had even switched off their mobile phones, and that they were lying to me that my issue would be resolved," Omtatah said.

Why Okiya Omtatah left Lang'ata Police Station

According to Omtatah, the officer asked him to go back home, claiming that even if their bosses came, they would downplay the matter.

"He said that the officers would not record the matter since it was not committed in Lang'ata but in Kisii, where the president was. I looked for a plane, but there was none, so I left at night with my car. I arrived at Mosocho Police Station at around 3am to 4am," Omtatah explained.

The first-time MP claimed that when he got to the station, he found the officers sleepy and exhausted. He explained to them what had happened, and they took his statement.

"They recorded two offences, one threatening my life and another calling me a fraud. They wrote his exact name on the OB on Saturday, December 16, 2023. I know him (Ruto) as an individual. He is only a president within the law; when he steps outside the law, he is just an ordinary Kenyan like me," Omtatah further explained.

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that police officers in Kisii county thwarted Omtatah's efforts to report what he described as death threats being issued by Ruto.

Why Okiya Omtatah went to report William Ruto

The senator was determined to file a report and record a statement against Ruto because the president had issued remarks he deemed threatening to his life during a recent public rally.

According to Citizen TV, officers at Nyanchwa Police Station turned away the legislator on Tuesday, December 19.

The senator had obtained an OB number at Mosocho Police Station in Kitutu Chache and was referred to Nyanchwa.

The head of state ignited divided opinions among Kenyans by saying he would use the sword he was given while ascending to power to slice those who stood in his way towards delivering Kenya Kwanza pledges to Kenyans.
