The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) has declared all its senior managerial positions redundant as it looks to reduce its wage bill amidst low revenues.

This move is part of an ongoing staff restructuring effort aimed at streamlining operations and cutting salary expenses.

Are there vacancies at Posta?

The corporation intends to prioritise internal candidates in filling the positions, with plans to open applications to the public should suitable candidates not be found among existing employees.

Which positions were declared redundant by Posta?

According to the corporation's latest corporate strategic annual review report highlighted by Business Daily, all management positions ranging from PCK/MG2 to PCK/MG4 have been declared vacant, marking a critical phase in the restructuring process.

"All management positions, that is PCK/MG2 to PCK /MG4 were declared vacant immediately for any eligible applicants internally first," said the corporation.

Why Posta fired the senior managers?

PCK stated that the board approved a new organisational structure for phase one, which is set to be implemented by December 31.

John Tonui, the CEO of PCK said that the restructuring, which would cost about KSh 1 billion, is necessary and explained that factors such as age, skill set, and competency would guide the selection of individuals to be retrenched.

The restructuring has been described as necessary to reduce the workforce from the current 2,364 employees to 1,860, which will significantly decrease the corporation's wage bill from 82% to 50%.

Were Posta employees paid salary arrears?

Due to financial struggles, the corporation had been unable to pay its employees for five months, but recently, the Senate Committee on Information, Communication, and Technology directed the cabinet secretary for ICT and Digital Economy to pay the five months' salary arrears before Christmas.

Posta unveils new buses

In other related news, PCK ventured into the transport sector, unveiling new buses operating in the Western Kenya region in an effort to generate revenue.

In a statement posted on its official X social media platform, the state corporation said that customers will enjoy affordable and convenient commuter services from Post Liner.

"Book now!!! Mapema ndio best. To get in touch with us call: 0725933846 or visit our City Square office to board the bus," the statement reads in part.
