Members of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah and Millie Odhiambo have engaged in a battle of the minds over differences on Utamaduni Day.

How MP Odhiambo defended Utamaduni Day

The Suba North MP disagreed with the motion to eliminate Utamaduni Day, suggesting that activities from Environmental Day be transferred to Utamaduni Day instead and the latter be scrapped.

However, Kikuyu MP Ichung'wah, in an attempt to inform Odhiambo, stated that the October 10 holiday would remain in place but be themed around climate change mitigation.

"I was thinking of informing Millie. Honourable Millie might not have been there when we were moving the bill. I did indicate at moving that the clause is part of the items that we intend to amend for deletion because there has been a change following what happened on Utamaduni Day this year. So that particular day of October 10 would remain a public holiday, especially themed around the issue of climate change and mitigation. As much as Millie did not want to be informed, it is good for her to just learn that without being informed," said Ichung'wah, the majority leader in the National Assembly.

In response, Odhiambo said,

"I did not ask to be informed. I'm sorry; you cannot inform me without my permission. I am fairly informed. I like to learn things that are substantive and intellectual. Next time, inform me of my intellectual capabilities, not under mundane things like."

Traffic tax policy

The Suba MP sadly noted that the majority leader moved a motion intending to take KSh 500,000 from hustlers for removing or tearing a notice on a vehicle.

Contrary to the already-passed bill, Section 1179 of the Traffic Act provides that any person found committing such an offence is charged a fine not exceeding KSh 200.

According to Odhiambo, the motion would lift the fine from KSh 200 to KSh 200,000 and a fine of KSh 500 to KSh 500,000, contrary to the Kenya Kwanza promises.

"Which hustler are you going to fine half a million for removing notice of a car? Are you living in Utopia? Are you living on Mars? Are you crazy? Are you mad? Are you mental? Do you need a mental checkup? Think about Kenyans when moving a bill; you are very unserious," lamented Odhiambo.

Sifuna lectures Boni Khalwale

In July of this year, Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna challenged his Kakamega counterpart Boni Khalwale to produce his Musingu High School KCSE results.

The two were battling about English mastery after Khalwale claimed that he had scored highly during his time.

"Khalwale, you will struggle to teach me English. You have said you did better than me in Musingu, but you have refused to produce the results so that I see yes, you got an A or maybe you got an AAA. I don't know whatever it is you did in your old days," said Sifuna.
