Travellers heading to Kakamega county from Nairobi have been forced to spend the night in the cold after the bus developed mechanical problems.

According to a post by Sikika Road Safety, the bus belonging to Climax company developed mechanical issues at Eka Tano Kikuyu in Kiambu county along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway at 10pm on Saturday, December 23.

Passengers criticise Climax bus company

The passengers complained that the company has not provided them with an alternative bus despite paying KSh 3,000 as the fare.

They expressed their frustrations with the company, with some having children who have also been forced to spend the night in the cold.

"Hello Sikika ROAD Safety, this is our sad story; this vehicle developed a mechanical problem at 10 pm last night, and up to now, we have not received any rescue bus from the company, we are at Eka Tano area at Rubis, and everyone was paying 3k from Nairobi to Kakamega .......we have children, and we are frustrated," Sikika Road Safety said in a statement on Sunday, December 24.

How bus driver left passengers stranded in Kericho

Elsewhere, 29 passengers who were on a Nairobi-bound bus were left stranded and scared after the driver stopped the vehicle in the middle of the night and ran away under mysterious circumstances.

The bus driver who was on the way to Nairobi from Busia is said to have stopped the vehicle midtrip in Sitotwet, Kericho, and escaped; the tout followed him moments later.

A report by NTV indicated that the incident happened at 2am, and the apprehensive passengers were left alone until 7am when one of them made a report at the Ainamoi Police Station

Belgut Sub-county Police Commander Charles Kibati confirmed the incident and said the travellers recorded their statements before finding means to proceed with the journey to Nairobi.
