Android TVs are great. They put almost all the power and flexibility of the Android operating system into your TV, and now that Android TVs are becoming more and more mainstream, thanks to the likes of Mi TVs, iFFALCON TVs, Sony’s Android TVs, Motorola TVs, Nokia TVs, and even TV boxes, like the Mi TV Box and the Nvidia Shield TV, it’s just the perfect time to get an Android TV if you don’t have one already. So, whether you are planning on buying a new Android TV, or if you already have one, one of the great things you can do is play Android games on it, so here are the best games you can play to pass some time when you’re not busy watching Netflix, Prime Video, or using some of the best Android TV apps.

Asphalt 8: Airborne

Asphalt 8 is one of my all-time favorite mobile games. It is incredibly fun to play and even comes with a local (and online) multiplayer mode, which enhances the gaming experience. On Android TV, the game is available on the Play Store and runs well on devices like the Mi Box. Although the frame rate may not be perfect, it remains playable. You can connect a Bluetooth gamepad to your Android TV, and Asphalt will automatically detect it and provide the appropriate control scheme.

While you can use the controller that comes with your TV box, the gameplay can feel less engaging. A Bluetooth controller can significantly enhance the fun of racing on a larger screen.

Note: Asphalt 9: Legends is not currently compatible with Android TV.

Crossy Road

Crossy Road is a delightful game that can keep you entertained for hours. The concept is straightforward: cross roads while avoiding traffic that comes from both directions. Additionally, you must avoid leaving the screen as the camera continuously pans forward. The game is addictive because it feels easy at first, but it requires quick reflexes to keep up with the pace.

The graphics might seem intentionally simplistic, but this contributes to the game’s charm. The fast-paced action, combined with an easy-to-learn control scheme, makes it a fun experience. Note that it works better with the Android TV remote rather than a gamepad.

Dead Trigger 2

Dead Trigger 2 is a first-person survival game set in a world ravaged by a zombie apocalypse. While it may seem like just another zombie game, the open-world maps and graphics create an engaging experience. You can explore the map, complete objectives, and more. The game does require a gamepad for play, and setting it up can take a bit of time, but customizing the controls when the game starts is a helpful feature.

At the beginning of the game, you find yourself in a zombie-infested world with only a melee weapon and a handgun. As you progress, you unlock additional weapons, allowing for varied gameplay. The game is frequently updated, introducing new elements to keep you engaged.

Into the Dead

Into the Dead is another game I enjoyed on my Android phone, and it translates well to the larger screen. The visuals gain depth, enhancing the horror of navigating a field filled with zombies and obstacles. The game is easily playable with a gamepad, and it guides you through the controls as you go. Your character runs automatically, and you only control the direction to evade zombies and obstacles.

This game functions as an endless runner and becomes more challenging as you progress. Quick reflexes are essential to avoid collisions with zombies, which can result in your character's demise.

Orbia

Orbia is a casual game that also works perfectly on Android TV. The premise is simple: tap and dash to the next circle while avoiding enemies. As levels progress, the game speeds up, making it challenging. The vibrant visuals and great soundtrack make it an exciting experience.

There are various worlds and characters to unlock, and the game can be played with the Android TV remote, so you don’t necessarily need a controller.

Hovercraft: Getaway

The Hovercraft series has gained immense popularity, and the latest installment, Hovercraft: Getaway, is no exception. This combat-racing game allows you to drive a hovercraft while evading police. You can use various weapons to destroy pursuing cop cruisers. The game is packed with action, featuring an array of police vehicles like cruisers, drones, and tanks.

Hovercraft: Getaway offers extensive customization options for your hovercraft, allowing you to equip different weapons and upgrades. The graphics and physics-based combat system provide an enjoyable experience, compatible with both gamepads and the Android TV remote.
