On Monday, September 16, 2024, Apple released the stable version of iOS 18, the latest software version for iPhones. Ever since Apple’s biggest software update made its debut, fans have been going crazy to get their hands on the shiny Apple Intelligence features. After all, there has been so much hype all these months and AI has been one of the highlighting features of the new iPhones. While Apple Intelligence seems exciting, its availability has always been in question. If you’re also curious to try Apple’s AI system or are wondering if iOS 18 has Apple Intelligence, you’ve landed at the right place. Keep reading to get all your answers.
Is Apple Intelligence Available in iOS 18?
This is disappointing, but iOS 18 doesn’t have Apple Intelligence at the moment. Usually, the new software arrives all at once, but this is a unique year for iOS. Apple’s latest iPhone software update has arrived with foundational improvements like a revamped Control Center and RCS Messaging, but Apple Intelligence isn’t part of the initial iOS 18 release. Additionally, we might not see some of the Apple Intelligence features until 2025. This includes exciting features like Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, and a new Siri with contextual awareness.
It’s also important to note that even the latest iPhone 16 lineup won’t ship with Apple Intelligence features right out of the box. Users who are eager to experience these advanced AI features will have to wait a bit longer.
When Will Apple Intelligence Arrive?
If you’re waiting for the Apple Intelligence release date, you will need to exercise patience. Apple Intelligence will be available on all supported devices from October onwards in U.S. English. Apple will begin rolling out AI to eligible users through new iOS 18.x updates in October. If you don’t live in the U.S., Apple Intelligence will be available in December in countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Following this, support for languages including French, Chinese, Japanese, and Spanish will come in 2025.
This timeline indicates that Apple is gradually expanding its AI capabilities globally, allowing for a wider audience to benefit from these enhancements over time.
Not All iOS 18 iPhones Will Get Apple Intelligence
Not all iPhones will get Apple’s forthcoming AI system. Even if your iPhone supports iOS 18, it doesn’t guarantee that it will be compatible with Apple Intelligence. This is because Apple Intelligence requires at least an A17 Pro chipset or M-Series chips (for iPads & Macs). Consequently, only the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models are compatible with Apple Intelligence.
If you own an older model, including last year’s iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, you won’t be able to access features like Writing Tools, Summarize, Reduce Interruptions Focus Mode, and more. Unfortunately, you will need to upgrade your iPhone to take advantage of all the AI features.
What’s New in iOS 18
While the absence of Apple Intelligence is noteworthy, iOS 18 still brings a variety of exciting features. This year’s update enhances the user experience with a personalized Home Screen, customizable Lock Screen, the ability to lock and hide individual apps, and Vehicle Motion cues, among other improvements. Moreover, there are numerous hidden iOS 18 features that enhance usability and quality of life.
