Announced at WWDC in June 2024, the new iPadOS 18 brings some much-awaited and exciting features for iPad users. The latest version gets all the major changes from iOS 18 and then some interesting Apple Intelligence features. These include on-device and cloud AI support, new ways to interact with Siri, a new Passwords app, a Photos app redesign, and finally, a Calculator app (yep, finally). Here are all the supported devices that will get the new iPadOS 18 update.
iPadOS 18 Compatibility: Supported iPads List
Apple M-powered iPads will be able to run iPadOS 18 alongside some older models that came with the older A-series chips. However, the availability of some features may be limited on iPads backed by A-series chips.
- iPad Pro M4 2024
- iPad Pro M2 2022
- iPad Pro M1 2021
- iPad Pro 2020
- iPad Pro 2018
- iPad Air M2 2024
- iPad Air M1 2022
- iPad Air 2020
- iPad Air 2019
- iPad mini 2021
- iPad mini 2019
- iPad 2022
- iPad 2021

With on-device AI functions, it’s possible Apple may restrict some features from iPads not running on an M1 chip or newer. The above list confirms that iPadOS 18 will not come to the 2018 iPad, and 2017 iPad Pro, so iPadOS 17 will be the last major update available for these models.
When Will iPadOS 18 Come Out?
The developer beta for the iPadOS 18 was made available right after the WWDC keynote on June 10, 2024. The stable version of iPadOS 18 is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2024, alongside the iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia 15.
