A woman who took an oath to practise celibacy is still pure at 58 and loves the 'freedom' of wilderness living.

Despite being proposed to 15 times, Duni has rejected all advances after making a vow to stay celibate 35 years ago.

Why is Duni practising celibacy?

Duni reportedly promised to become a "Burrnesha" as they're known in Albania, and is one of the last of her kind.

Being a Burrnesha means she is also committed to "living as a man" in the wilderness, as per ancient Balkan tradition.

Duni doesn't identify as transgender, but she wears masculine clothes and cuts her hair short to stay true to her oath.

Living in a mountain chalet, she only has her dog as company.

"When my father passed away my brother and sister were young; at that time a girl or a woman was always someone who was serving. So I had two options; to serve to the family of a husband or to [become a sworn vi*rgin and] serve my own family," she said.

She claimed she wanted to feel "free" and "different" and was able to adopt this lifestyle and remain unmarried due to her father being "open-minded" while growing up.

She took this route mainly because it allows women to become the so-called 'breadwinner' for the family - something she was keen to do.

The tradition in Albanian villages was that rather than a man approaching a woman for marriage, it would be his father consulting the woman's family, but Duni refused every time.

Many people tried to convince her, but her firm stand allowed her to stick to her Burrnesha belief.

Man who's still pure says it's hard to find love

Separately, a 33-year-old man confessed that he had never slept with a woman in his entire life.

The worried man took to Reddit.com to reveal that he chose to stay chaste because he wants to be with a woman he really loves and not just hookups.

He said he had got advances from friends but was not interested. His post saw many men as old as 50 share similar stories.
