Joshua Mukhwana, a determined student from Friends School Kamusinga, has defied the odds by scoring an impressive A plain with 82 points in the recent national examinations.

Mukhwana's parents grapple with the challenge of feeding a family of five and face the daily grind of making ends meet.

His father, a peasant farmer, and his mother, currently employed as a watchlady at Sipala Friends Secondary School, have found it challenging to secure stable employment.

Mukhwana studied through scholarship

Given his poor background, Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati included Mukhwana in the county government's bursary program.

The decision paid off as the young bright student scored an impressive plain A in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary exams.

In an emotional letter to the sponsor, the youngster expressed his gratitude for being offered the chance to pursue his academic ambitions.

"I am very thankful for the scholarship, for it allowed me to settle in class with no worries of being sent home even when the school was at its dead end," he wrote.

Scored a plain A in KCSE

Mukhwana added that the peace of knowing he doesn't have fee arrears made him work hard to ensure he did not disappoint.

His relentless hard work at school has finally paid off, earning him an outstanding academic performance.

"As can be seen, I have scored an A plain of 82 points which I expected, gauging from my tireless hard work," he wrote.

The student disclosed his dream is to pursue Dental Surgery at the University of Nairobi, with aspirations to further his studies abroad.

Mukhwana promised to keep shining

Mukhwana expressed his gratitude, highlighting the importance of ongoing support for students facing financial hardships.

"I hope and pray that you may continue supporting me just as every day, and I promise not to let you down in my behaviour, conduct, and academic life,"

As the youngster prepares to join university for further studies, his story stands as a testament to the resilience of determined individuals in overcoming adversity.

Linus Kiprop scored B minus

In a similar story, Linus Kiprop, the Chavakali High School student who went viral for trekking home after being sent for fees, scored a B minus.

Kiprop's story touched hearts in 2021 after he walked over 35 km to Kakamega town because he did not have the fare.

He arrived at night and was stranded in the streets, then pleaded with a watchman to spend the night beside him.
