To begin with, he was a bright who studied economics at the university but could not secure employment in the job market.

"I only did an internship at Makueni County Assembly after graduation. After that, I made uncountable job application all over the country and attended several interviews but none came through," he said.

As he waited for things to open up, the young Mulei ventured into the boda boda business in Wote Makueni to earn a living.

Tried police recruitment for 7 years

With hopes of finding an entry into the industry dwindling fading out, the 28-year-old figured he needed to shift his attention to something else.

That is when he decided to try out the police service and attended several recruitment exercises before one finally came through.

"I tried since 2015, and each year, I would travel from Eldoret to Moi and then to Makueni whenever there was a recruitment drive, but all those were in vain," he recounted.

His journey of relentless attempts finally paid off on March 24, 2022, as he successfully qualified just when he was on the verge of giving up.

Top student at Kiganjo

His zeal for service was witnessed during police training at Kiganjo when he excelled as a "sticky man" and was privileged to choose his posting location.

"I was given a red lanyard for being the best in drills, academics, and discipline in my squad," a proud Mulei continued.

The diligent officer discloses that he believed that his degree would expedite his progress within the police service, but that has not happened.

Mulei now has his eyes set on joining the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), where he believes his skills and experience will be of great value.

Day Mulei went viral

He recalled the day his photo went viral, indicating that he just held the little one out of fatherly instincts, unaware it would make him famous.

Mulei says on that morning, the candidate came with her child on the last day of her exams looking gloomy, which made him notice she had a problem.

When the exam was almost starting, he asked whether she wanted to enter the exam room with her child, and the girl told him she had no other option.

"I requested her to feel free and leave me with the child and proceed to her exam without stress, and that was what she did," he recounted.
