Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced the placement of Form One students into secondary schools.

Machogu reiterated that the process was fair, with most students getting placed at their preferred schools.

However, some were placed according to certain criteria.

"Some students were placed in schools of equivalent standing outside their counties. This includes those from counties with inadequate capacity," Machogu noted.

Fees will remain unchanged, says Machogu

While presiding over the event at Lenana School in Nairobi, the CS asked Regional Directors of Education and County Education Directors to ensure that school principals do not impose additional levies on parents beyond the limits of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

He also stressed that the County Education Board (CEB) has no power to approve school fees outside the ones stipulated by the ministry.

The CS stated that all 1.4 million candidates will move on to secondary schools and that the fees for day scholars will remain the same.

“Government upholds its commitment to providing free day secondary education, which includes allocations for tuition and operation expenses. The fees charged to secondary schools will remain unchanged in 2024. Schools will continue to receive funds based on accurate enrollment data,” said Machogu.

How to check admission results

Machogu advised parents to visit the Form One placement portal or the Kemis website, appealing to them to download the placement forms directly and not through middlemen.

Alternatively, the students can send an email to placement@education.go.ke.

"I assure Kenyans that this website has been tested and proven and is 100% accurate. It is in operation," he added.

2023 KCPE results released

Barely a month ago, the CS released the KCPE results of over 1.4 million candidates three weeks after the conclusion of the exams.

The ministry stated that students who did not sit for the exams that marked the end of the 8.4.4 system would be allowed to sit for a special exam in January.

However, some schools that disowned the results filed petitions with the court to bar the placement process until their grievances were addressed.
