A Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) finalist was found dead a day after failing to attend graduation.

Thirty-year-old Peter Koech was among the over 22,600 cohort of graduates conferred with their credentials on Thursday, December 7.

He was said to have fatally harmed himself after injecting a drug into his body, Citizen TV reported.

According to the officers from the Chepseon Police Station probing the circumstances in which Koech died, he informed his parents of his plan to travel to Nairobi to join his coursemates for graduation.

KSh 15,000 for graduation celebration

His father, a clinician in Kericho, would then hand him KSh 15,000 for his expenses in the graduation fete.

However, instead of travelling on Thursday, Koech went home and engaged the watchman, from whom he had asked for the key to one of the houses.

Having been convinced that the now-deceased wanted to rest, the guard gave him the key.

He then opened the house belonging to his father and allegedly injected himself with the dug.

All was normal until the following morning when the watchman stumbled on the man's body after he went to check on him.

Stuck in one of the arms was a syringe whose contents are believed to have killed him.

The guard raised the alarm, attracting villagers who, after showing up at the scene, strived to resuscitate him, all to no avail.

Officers from the foregoing police station ferried the body to the Lipton Central Hospital mortuary ahead of postmortem.

Separately, police officers in Kirinyaga County recently launched investigations into the mysterious death of a Fourth-Year student from Kirinyaga University.

The young man was attacked at the Kutus Trading Centre at around 9pm on November 18 while in the company of his shocked friend.

He collapsed and was bleeding from the thigh after he was attacked; his friends tried to call for help.

Mwea East sub-county Police Commander James Mutua confirmed the incident, saying a probe into the student's murder had commenced.

"We have informed his relatives, and right now, we are waiting for postmortem," he said.
