Kiambu - Residents of Kiambaa Constituency are mourning the sudden demise of a mother and her young son.

The two were buried alive in a mudslide following heavy rains that have been pounding the area for days.

According to the deceased's husband, he was informed of the unfortunate incident while at work, prompting him to rush home only to find the bodies of his wife and son.

"Now after that; even my mother didn't know, and even my child, while in his bedroom, still didn't know. That's when he was telling his mother that she had been exposed to sand," he said.

Only one child was rescued from the tragic landslide.

The child's grandmother said the young girl called her, informing her that her brother and mother had been buried under the mud.

She said she took the young girl from the area to safety after realising it was futile to save the two.

What should Kiambu county government do?

The residents implored the Kiambu county government to focus on helping the residents directly affected by the rain.

Tony Wahigi, a blogger, pointed out that the running water had changed course and was passing through people's homes.

"The county project should focus on these people. They are the ones at risk. Those gabions they are constructing there on the tarmac roads, they should come and build them here. They should check where the water is flowing, where it passes to go to the river. Because now, the water is passing through people's homesteads," he said.

A county government official at the scene said they were on course to relocate the residents living in the high-risk areas.

Mother, son die after domestic brawl

Separately, residents of Ziwani village were thrown into mourning following the sudden death of two family members.

In the unfortunate incident, a 36-year-old man, Musa Stephen, hacked his 70-year-old mother, Ntengure Rashid, to death after a domestic dispute.

Musa went ahead to attack his sister with the same panga, leaving her with serious head injuries.

In another tragic turn of events, angry residents who responded to her distress call descended on Musa, killing him on the spot.
