Lodwar: 4 Suspects Who Stole KSh 300k From Parked Car Nabbed On Highway

Turkana county - Four people are in police custody as investigators conclude probe into their conduct after being intercepted with loot.

The quartet of suspects comprises Stephen Kamire, Erick Odhiambo, Raphael Ndeda Otieno, and Emmanuel Okoth.

KSh 300k theft in Turkana

Police intercepted them on Tuesday, December 19, at Sopel along Lodwar -Kitale Highway while onboard a getaway vehicle, a Toyota Ractis, registration details KDJ 496.

They are believed to have stolen KSh 300,000 and other valuables from a stationary vehicle in Lodwar.

"Recovered from them was the money, four smart phones, eight SIM cards, and three button phones. Preliminary investigations suggest that the money was stolen from a parked car. The matter is under investigation by DCI Turkana Central," read a statement from the police.

Loss of items worth KSh 1 million

Separately, police in Kwale county recently apprehended four suspects linked with the theft of households costing approximately KSh 1 million.

The officers were hunting down thieves who had allegedly stolen mobile phones.

According to Lydia Mambo, the Samburu-Chengoni Police Commander, they apprehended one thief who led them to a stash of stolen items.

"We were hunting for suspects of mobile phone theft. We were lucky to arrest one who directed us to where they stored the stolen items. These items roughly cost KSh 1 million," she said.

Police call residents to register claims

Mambo invited residents of the area who had lost their belongings to make a report to the police so they could reclaim them.

The goods, including 400 phones, 12 televisions, dressing mirrors, solar panels, and computers, among other household items, were stored in Mwabila village in Mwavumbo ward.

"I am urging the residents who have lost items to theft to come to our police station, file a report, and identify their items," Mambo said.
