Looming Dry Spell In December As Weatherman Gives 7-Day Forecast

The Meteorological Department of Kenya has announced that the country could begin experiencing dry conditions towards the end of its one-week forecast between Thursday, December 14, and Wednesday, December 20.

Rainfall in Kenya

The country has been experiencing light to heavy rainfall for the better part of November and December, with the rains causing floods in some regions.

This was in line with the weatherman's prediction that Kenya would experience El Nino or heavier than normal rains during that period.

Areas like Mombasa were most affected by the heavy rains and flooding that displaced hundreds of residents and rendered hundreds of houses inhabitable.

Kenya's latest weather forecast

According to the weatherman, the rains will continue between Thursday, December 14, and Monday, December 18, but a shift to sunny and dry conditions will happen towards Wednesday, December 20.

"At the beginning of the forecast period, rainfall is likely in the Western, South-Eastern lowlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Central highlands (including Nairobi), and the Coastal region. Some North-Eastern and North-Western regions may also experience light to moderate rainfall during this period," the forecast by the meteorological department read.

However, the weatherman was explicit that the rains would gradually reduce and pave the way to sunny and dry conditions beginning next week. It could just be a sunny Christmas.

"Progressing through the period (14–20th), anticipate a shift to sunny and dry conditions across most parts of the country by the end of the forecast," the meteorological department indicated in the seven-day forecast.

The recent rains saw county governors and the national government confront each other over who should have set aside funds to mitigate the effects of floods.
