A Kenyan employer has warned young people to learn to keep their jobs and ensure good relations with employers, even when quitting work.

The employer shared a story of a young man who, despite having many chances before, failed to take them and is now begging her for another chance.

"Unfortunately, as an employer, my observation has been that a huge percentage of youths in Kenya don’t know how to keep jobs," @MudgeRulf, the Kenyan employer, said in a post on X.

How to relate with employers

The employer recounts investing considerable time and resources in training an employee who then exited without informing her, even after she had given him many chances.

Later, when she had another vacancy, she considered hiring him again because she had spent money on his training, but he declined the job offer and said he was waiting to travel to Dubai.

"I was happy for him and didn’t want to stand on his way to Dubai, so I asked if he could take up the job until he flew out, but he declined. As you can see from the text, he even left my last message unanswered," said @MudgeRulf.

How Kenyans reacted

Don’t burn bridges. You will be surprised how many times you have to cross the same river.

This is true! Someone I know was jobless for months, and then she was hooked to a job….it happened that one evening they were so busy and were told to extend just for a few minutes and being a hospital setting, she had no otherwise….only for her to complain to the mnx that she was treated badly and that was not what is in their terms of employment . I went mute! Like she has only been employed for 15 days .

We also need to talk about employers whom you give your all and always deliver on time, ensuring a smooth flow of work but choosing to compensate those doing nothing better. In short, they wait for the day you land a better job so they raise your salary to prevent you from leaving.

@MudgeRulf replied to @rozzykanyua:

In such cases, one needs to move on to a better job because the employer didn’t deserve them.
