Ndungu Nyoro Leads Wellwishers To Raise KSh 650k For Form 1 Student Battling Cancer

• Kenyans led by philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro have joined hands to raise KSh 650,000 for an ailing student in just 12 hours
• The bright boy is set to join Form 1, be he is unwell at the moment and needs to undergo chemotherapy
• He couldn't walk well, so his KCPE exam papers were brought to his home but he still scored impressively

Philanthropist Ndungu Nyoro and his team were on the road doing selecting potential beneficiaries of the Wings to Fly scholarship program when they came across a sad case.

In a post on Facebook, he indicated that the young man had applied for a scholarship but had not been in school since April because he had been ailing.

Sat KCPE exams at home

For that reason, his KCPE exam papers were brought to his home, yet he still scored an impressive 375 marks.

Nyoro says they had to make the visit brief so the boy and his parents could make their way to the Texas Cancer Centre to buy some drugs and head to KNH for admission.

"The boy is expected to be at KNH for nine days and thereafter be discharged. I couldn't help but feel sad as the father explained their situation," he noted.

Nyoro added that they couldn't go to church on Sunday because that meant spending money needed for their fare to the hospital.

The family lives in a Mabati house, which the landlord offered to waive rent for five months until February 2024 so they can handle their son's treatment.

KSh 650k in 12 hours

Ndungu reiterated that, at some point, the student could barely walk but has regained some strength over time.

"If you have 1000, 500 or 100 in your M-pesa it's all we can do to support the boy's treatment. As I post this he is admitted at KNH," he wrote.

Twelve hours later, kindhearted Kenyans had contributed KSh 650,000 for the bright student's treatment.

He is to be admitted to the hospital for nine days for the first of eight chemotherapy cycles, a procedure estimated to cost about KSh 1 million.

"This will be very helpful as he courageously fights cancer and hopefully gets back to school," he concluded.
