Pastor Nganga's daughter recounted her son's medical condition and noted that it all began when he was diagnosed with cancer of the eye.
"Jonathan had cancer of the eye, which is known as Bilateral Retinoblastoma, it was a cancer for both his eyes. One of his eyes was removed, and he was left with one. So for the one that was left we were still treating it until 2020. The medicine wasn't working, so we were sent to India in 2020, and we were helped. When we came back, we used to go to the clinic every month. He used to go to theatre after every three weeks"
The journey to the hospitals and the medical treatments rendered them penniless. Naomi noted that hospital visits became the norm.
How much is the bill?
In November, he became quite sickly, and a doctor insisted that his tests be sent to India for further verification.
"In November, he had a cold. We went to Kenyatta for an eye check-up. He was not checked. He started vomiting and looked like he was conversing. We rushed him to the hospital, and he did not have blood. One of the doctors said we needed to do further tests. The tests were sent to India and when they came back they stated that he had leukemia.
It was quite a shock. They told us that the treatment would cost us nearly KSh 5 million to KSh 6 million. We did not know where to start. A doctor offered to stand with us so that he can get treatment as we gathered the funds."
