Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya won a silver medal in the men's 200m race at the ongoing EALA interparliamentary games in Rwanda.

Despite the impressive performance, the MP was disappointed that he threw away his chance at gold due to a failure by the government.

He shared a video of the race in which he rushed to the finish line in second position, arguing that he stood a chance to clinch the first position.

According to him, his mind was not settled as he was running with his mind worrying about the unpaid bills at the hotel.

"Nilikuwa nakimbia nikifikiri jinzi naenda kuchonga viazi na kuosha vyombo kwa sababu sijalipia hoteli (I was running while thinking how I was going to peel potatoes and wash dishes because I hadn't paid for the hotel," he said.

Ruto bought goats

The politician reiterated that he only participated in the race because he loved his country, but he would have performed better if the government facilitated him.

His sentiments came two days after he accused President William Ruto of spending money on the wrong things while the country's representatives were struggling in Rwanda.

This was after the president and his deputy graced the annual Kimalel goat auction in Baringo County and purchased 1,000 goats for KSh 15,000 each.

"We came out here in Rwanda to participate in the EALA games, which is so surprising that even MPs have not been given anything. We have not paid our hotels, and they want us to compete," he complained.

Njeri Maina won silver

Meanwhile, Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina was overjoyed when he came second in the 200m women's race at the tournament.

The legislator told TUKO.co.ke that she had to fly the Kenyan flag high as she is the vice-captain of the athletics team.

Her other push came from Kenya being famed for producing top-notch athletes, so there was motivation to uphold the reputation.

“We may not be professional athletes, but we are trying to maintain the good name the likes of Faith Kipyegon and Eliud Kipchoge have earned for Kenya,” she said.
