Ruai: DCI Officers Nab 2 Suspects With Over KSh 2.5m Contraband Milk Powder, 289 Bags Of Maize

Police in Ruai have arrested two suspects believed to be the main suppliers of contraband milk powder in Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) conducted an undercover operation from Eastleigh, led by one of the suspects, Ali Noor.

Cost of milk apprehended in Nairobi

The operation resulted in the seizure of over 32.5 tonnes of milk powder at a godown located along the Eastern Bypass.

"In the sting operation, an unsuspecting known broker in Eastleigh by the name Ali Noor directed an undercover hawkshaw to Kamakis area along Eastern Bypass, after the officer posed as a potential buyer," Read the DCI report in part.

The undercover officer agreed to pay KSh 16,500 per bag, for 150 bags, which translated to KSh 2,475,000.

The milk came in a truck under the escort of the consignment owner Joseph Waweru.

Waweru is believed to be the main supplier of powdered milk to business people within Nairobi.

DCI sleuths interrogated Waweru on the spot, leading them to the godown at Twin Industrial Park within Ruai.

Other products confiscated by DCI

The officers recovered another 1,150 bags of milk powder—of five different brands.

These include 181 bags of branded Fresh Dairy products from Brookside Uganda, 421 bags of branded Gardo products from New Zealand, 485 bags of Non-Dairy Creamer products from China, 56 bags of branded SAMA products from New Zealand, and 6 bags of branded Lato products from Uganda.

The officers also found 289 bags of maize, each weighing 25 kg, from India and a truck Reg No. KDG 087Z with 17 empty drums, suspected to be used to transport Ethanol.

The two suspects have been put under police custody as investigations continue.
