A controversy has erupted among the former comedians of the popular Kenyan show Churchill Show after one of them, Paul Ogutu Wakimani, claimed that the show’s host, Daniel Ndambuki, also known as Churchill, had generously rewarded his comedians with cars and cash.

Wakimani made the allegations in an interview with Plug TV.

Did Churchill reward his comedians?

He said that Churchill had called them for a meeting in Lang’ata and asked them to choose what they wanted him to do for them.

“Some people asked for cars and they were told to step aside then another section asked for money so they could invest it. Then he wrote our names on a piece of paper and divided the two groups.
He then gave those who had asked for money KSh 300,000 each to go and invest in their respective villages. Then those who wanted cars were told to go to the showroom and pick cars of a certain amount. None of us has ever said the story,” Wakimani said.

He added that he was among the comedians who opted for money.

YY's response to Wakimani over Churchill's gifts

However, his claims were quickly dismissed by another former Churchill show comedian YY.

YY took to his Instagram stories to deny that Churchill had ever given them cars or money as Wakimani claimed.

"Let me clarify because a lot of people are asking. No one bought us cars. No one. Paul (Wakimani) you can’t make people look that ungrateful…of whose interest is all this showroom story?” he wrote.

He also wondered where Wakimani had gotten the story.

“Comedians can’t talk because they will look like they are ‘fighting’ Churchill and everyone is too careful looking for a specific angle to respond to this story… The direct answer is, nobody bought us cars. I don’t know where he got the story,” YY added.

How much does Churchill Show pay?

Previously, Eddie Butita spoke out on allegations that Churchill underpays performers on the Churchill Show.

In an exclusive with TUKO.co.ke, Butita dismissed the allegations, saying that at one point, Churchill Show paid more than any other local TV show.

Butita was hesitant to divulge the exact Churchill comedians paid the amount but said one would make a minimum of KSh 80,000.
