Machakos governor Wavinya Ndeti has warned lazy and corrupt county officials that their days are numbered in her administration.
Who is Machakos' governor?
The county chief was appalled that county officials were sleeping on the job, leaving contractors to deliver shoddy work at the expense of taxpayers' money.

Ndeti called out county executive committee (CEC) members and chief officers who were not actively supervising county projects, saying they would be sent home.
"We must deliver quality work to the people of Machakos. I am putting all the CECs and COs on notice. I cannot give you work, and instead of supervising the projects, you are letting engineers abscond, hence the shoddy work," Ndeti said.
She argued that whenever contractors hired by the county fail to deliver quality work, it shows that the county departments in charge of the projects could not take control as expected and must account for any mess done.
Wavinya Ndeti's powerful statement on corrupt county officials
"If your workers are not working, you will go home because you are not in control," said the governor.
She questioned the logic of forming a committee to inspect county projects when there are employed county officials tasked with supervising such developments.
"I find it challenging to form committees to go and check over work where I have employed people to go and check the work. Be it water, road construction, or building, let everyone do their job.
Sacking you, I'll sack you. Don't give me your vote in 2027 because I will not allow you to do the wrong thing," Ndeti declared.
Wavinya Ndeti's bold address against corrupt county officials
The governor was dissatisfied that some county officials were hellbent on swindling county resources for their own gain instead of prioritising the electorate's interests.
"Some people came here with the wrong attitude, thinking Machakos is a place to make money, and are stealing every time. I can assure you, the thieves are going. Take it to the bank. If I find you doing corruption in Machakos county, I swear to God you'll go.
"I have spent KSh 300 million to upgrade 70 dams, while others want to spend KSh 40 million on one dam, not Machakos. All the money we use must be of value to the people of Machakos," said Ndeti in a video trending on X about a week after she presided over the swearing-in ceremony of newly employed county officials.
During the event, Rita Ndunge was sworn in as the Roads, Transport, and Public Works CEC, and Christopher Mutie took an oath of office as a County Public Service Board member.
