A day after announcing the PS5 Pro, Sony has released a new update for the PS5. This update introduces a variety of exciting changes, most notably the new Welcome Hub. This much-anticipated feature aims to fill the gap left by the absence of customizable themes on the PS5. Let’s dive into what the Welcome Hub entails and the additional enhancements included in this update.
Welcome Hub Replaces Explore Page in PS5
According to Sony, the Welcome Hub is a reimagined version of the Explore tab. This new homescreen will be fully customizable, allowing players to add custom widgets and backgrounds. PS5 users can now select from a range of widgets to enhance their home screen, including options like console storage, battery levels for accessories, online friends, trophies, and much more.
Users can customize their layout easily by choosing from pre-designed templates or creating their own by dragging and dropping widgets. This flexibility allows players to resize widgets to emphasize their favorite features right on the homescreen.
Moreover, the Welcome Hub offers personalization options for backgrounds. Players can select from a variety of static or animated designs, or they can even use a screenshot from their media gallery, ensuring that the Welcome Hub not only replaces the Explore page but also enhances customization opportunities.
The PS5 Welcome Hub was initially available only in select regions of the US. However, with this official announcement from PlayStation, it will soon roll out globally, allowing more users to enjoy this innovative feature.
New PS5 Update Brings Additional Changes
In addition to the Welcome Hub, this PS5 update also introduces the Party Share option. This feature allows players to easily invite friends to their party voice chat from any messaging app. By creating a shareable link, users can send it to their friends, who can simply scan the QR code to join the party, even if they are not in the PlayStation Network friends list.
Moreover, the update includes Personalized 3D audio profiles and Adaptive charging for controllers. The 3D audio feature tailors the audio experience to each user’s specific device and preferences, enhancing immersion while gaming. To access these settings, players can navigate to Settings > Sound > 3D Audio Headphones.
The Adaptive charging functionality is specifically designed for Dualsense controllers using the USBC cable provided with the PS5. This feature adjusts the power supply duration to the controller based on its battery level, ensuring efficient charging. However, it is important to note that Adaptive charging will not be available on PlayStation Portal.
