How did Bomet miner die
Two other miners who were working in an adjacent cave escaped the area and raised the alarm for help.
The residents mobilised themselves into groups and mounted a retrieval mission that found the miner trapped in the debris.
Police officers based in Bomet Central Police Station went to the scene on Wednesday, January 3 and moved the body to Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary.
Erick Cheruiyot, a county officer in charge of devolution, has appealed to the miners to avoid the site until the relevant department clears it.
Teacher killed while harvesting sand
In a separate incident, residents of Ikumba village in Vihiga county were left in sorrow and grief following the tragic demise of Timothy Kidiya, a devoted primary school teacher.
The 34-year-old educator met his untimely death while engaged in the seemingly mundane task of harvesting sand to provide for himself and his family.
The unfortunate incident occurred when a massive stone, located near the harvesting site, unexpectedly dislodged and fell on the teacher, claiming his life instantly.
Kidiya's shocking demise has left the students of Ikumba Primary School in mourning as they grapple with the sudden loss of their beloved teacher.
"He was digging up the soil, unaware that the rock was not firmly embedded into the ground, so it just rolled over him," teacher Jane Ambani told TUKO.co.ke.
Villagers recounted the horrifying scene, describing the futile attempts made by onlookers to rescue Kidiya from beneath the weight of the fallen stone.
