Kenyans will continue paying high taxes after the High Court declined to certify as urgent a petition seeking to cap President William Ruto's levies at 20% of workers' salaries.

The case was fired by Mt Kenya Jurists Association, which accused Ruto of being inconsiderate to the plight of Kenyans amid harsh economic times.

Through lawyer Kibe Mungai, the petitioners argued that the government was entitled to collect taxes, but the law barred it from imposing punitive levies.

Justice Chacha Mwita ruled the case would be heard in June.

The assault on a nurse at Port Victoria Hospital in Busia has been strongly condemned by the National Nurses Association of Kenya and the Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists Dentists Union (KMPDU).

In a video that has gone viral, an unidentified man and woman can be seen harassing hospital staff, accusing them of neglecting a patient experiencing breathing difficulties.

The individuals in the video are heard making threats in the name of Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba.

"The reprehensible and aggressive assault on a nurse, allegedly carried out by a relative of a politician, was entirely unjustified, extreme, and unacceptable," Collins Ajwang, the National Nurses Association of Kenya president said.
