A man in Murang'a has been apprehended for impersonating a lawyer and attempting to represent individuals in court.

The arrest took place at Kangema law courts following a targeted operation initiated by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to get rid of fraudulent legal practitioners.

The suspect's true identity came to light when he attempted to represent unsuspecting members of the public before a magistrate's court.

LSK member Stephen Mbugua revealed that these fake lawyers have been taking advantage of the public by engaging in activities such as preparing legal documents like sale agreements.

The crackdown on impostors is not limited to Murang'a alone but is part of a nationwide effort to eradicate quack lawyers who pose a threat to the integrity of the legal profession.

Mbugua emphasized the need for public vigilance and urged citizens to verify the authenticity of individuals offering legal services by checking their licenses.

LSK Murang’a Practice Centre chairman, Mbue Ndegwa, echoed Mbugua's sentiments.

He called for collaborative efforts between advocates, the public, and government authorities to prevent citizens from falling prey to these fraudulent legal practitioners.

The joint efforts aim to ensure the protection of the public and maintain the credibility of the legal system.
