A Nairobi woman has come forward claiming that John Matara, the prime suspect in the murder of Starlet Wahu, was her former neighbour at Kiwanja estate.

Matara made headlines after he was captured on CCTV camera getting into an Airbnb with the socialite who was found brutally murdered hours later.

The source anonymously told TUKO.co.ke that Matara had a sinister history of assaulting multiple women.

She disclosed that the murder suspect was reportedly pursuing a master's degree at Kenyatta University during that time.

The source alleged that Matara had a disturbing penchant for exchanging women and had been reported to the police on numerous occasions for assault.

Matara had mysterious source of income

According to the informant, Starlet was just one of Matara's victims who seems to have bravely taken a stand against him.

"He was never arrested, though. Scarlet had to die so that this man could be apprehended. If all the women he assaulted come forward, you will be shocked," she stated.

In addition to the alleged violent tendencies, Matara was described as having a mysterious source of income.

He was known for paying his rent months in advance, making it challenging for the landlord to take action despite numerous complaints from the community.

Got into fights with women

Matara's lifestyle, marked by constant indoor activities such as smoking weed and receiving meals through Uber Eats, further fueled suspicions about the origin of his wealth.

The tipping point for the community came when Matara brought a woman home, leading to a violent altercation that lasted throughout the night.

When neighbours intervened, they discovered that the woman had been tied up and beaten.

"She could not even walk and had knife bruises on the hands and leg," the source continued.

Matara forced to relocate

Despite the police's involvement, Matara reportedly emerged unscathed and continued living as if nothing had happened.

Frustrated by the lack of action, the community eventually joined forces and informed the landlord that they would leave if Matara were not evicted.

The suspect eventually relocated.

It was, therefore, not fresh news for the source when they learnt of Matara's connection to the Scarlet Wahu case.

Witnesses accuse Matara of violence

Having been a witness to Matara's violent behaviour and Scarlet's tragic fate prompted her to speak out against the alleged perpetrator.

Since the investigation started in earnest, several women have come forward with claims that they had experienced Matara's alleged dark past.

In one instance, a lady shared details of what transpired for over six hours when she was 'held captive' by Matara at her house after inviting him over.

The woman claimed that one week after meeting on a dating site, he pestered her to meet him physically at his house, but she refused.

She finally agreed, only for him to torture and abuse her in her house before stealing KSh 18,000 from her.

Investigators are now under increased pressure to thoroughly investigate Matara's history and connection to Scarlet Wahu's murder and ensure justice is served.
