Gypsy Rose Blanchard has spoken up after eight years behind bars.
Does Gypsy Rose feel remorse for mum's death?
The Guardian reported that since her release, Gypsy had her first interview, where she stated that she wanted her story to be a "cautionary tale."
“... So that the next person that might be in a situation like mine, they don’t take the route that I did. I don’t believe my mother was a monster. She had a lot of demons herself that she was struggling with. I didn’t want her dead. I just wanted out of my situation, and I thought that was the only way out,” she said.

Before she got sentenced to prison, Gipsy endured life with her abusive mum.
Why Gypsy Rose Blanchard killed mum
The young woman's mum, Claudine Blanchard, had forced Gypsy to pretend that she was seriously ill and to also endure medical procedures.
According to reports and experts, Gypsy's mum suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder in which a caregiver fabricates or exaggerates a child's medical issues.
Under this influence, Blanchard falsely presented her daughter with ailments such as the need for a wheelchair and feeding tube, inflicting unnecessary treatments.
Moreover, her daughter endured physical abuse, including being restrained and confined to a bed.
In 2015, Gypsy's mum was found dead. The young woman had supplied her then-boyfriend, whom she met online, with a knife to kill her mum while she hid in the bathroom.
Her ex-boyfriend was sentenced to life in prison.
When asked whether it was fair that his lover was serving life imprisonment, she said:
Well, I’m sure that we both have a lot of regrets. All I can really say is that I did my time, [and] he’s doing his time for his part. And I wish him well on his journey.”
Narok teen kills mum over phone
In December 2023, a 13-year-old girl in Kapweria area tragically killed her mother with a machete following a dispute over a mobile phone.
The mother, a strict disciplinarian, wanted to take the phone her daughter was using to text, leading to the fatal altercation.
The teenager attempted to hide the evidence by throwing the murder weapon into a pit latrine but later confessed to the crime
